Music for Memory
Connecting people through music
Music for Memory
People with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementias can have difficulty communicating and finding pleasure in the world. For caregivers, the situation can be equally challenging as they feel isolated and disconnected.
Music has the power to act as a conduit of memory, stimulate cognition and communication, improve mood, and encourage interaction.
Participants in the Music for Memory program will receive one music device, one set of over-the-ear headphones, one wall charger and help with set up. Through the financial sponsorship from the Drunken Coconut Music Production, the Music for Memory program is available to families at no cost upon approval.
Benefits of Music
Each individual’s response to personalized music is unique. People with dementia may benefit from an increased quality of life, as the music stimulates their brains and encourages movement. Caregivers will gain a peaceful relaxing way to renew their relationships.
Eligibility
Participants must have been diagnosed with dementia. Recipients or caregivers must be residents of Hamilton residency and willing to speak with a counsellor or volunteer.
